Energy Competence Center
The National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) and the Institute of Communication and Computer Systems (ICCS) establish the Energy Competence Center, a spinoff company of research institutions and businesses in Greece that aims to support and promote innovation, entrepreneurship and technical competencies among enterprises that are operating in the energy sector – a fundamental pillar of the Greek economy.

01
GReFuTra
Techno-economic evaluation of the production and distribution of e-MeOH and e-LNG as alternative fuels.
A necessary precursor to industrial investment in these fuels, as part of the transformation of oil refining and natural gas logistics with the penetration of alternative fuels.
03
SMARTCITIES
Creating an IoT platform for digital data of energy flows in cities, resulting from the movements and activities of people and goods.
First step towards a set of services that will contribute to more energy efficient life in the city.
04
SHIMANAGAN
Thermodynamic and rheological analysis of hydrogen injection systems in natural gas networks, with a focus on avoiding hazardous flow regimes.
Equipment and operation recommendations for natural gas network operators preparing to inject hydrogen into their networks.
05
ALTFUELS@SHIPTYPES
Creation of a tool to assess and minimize the carbon footprint of specific ship types when using alternative fuels, notably LNG and MeOH.
It aims to unlock shipping investment towards alternative fuels, with a clear understanding of their impact on the commercial value of ships.
06
FLOWIND
Establishing a systematic method for assessing floating offshore wind farms, including their upstream supply chains.
Valuable aid in activating investment proposals for specific offshore locations where gravity anchoring to the seabed is not recommended.

07
CN-HESS
Creation of a computational optimization framework for the full exploitation of energy from a photovoltaic installation, through combined storage in batteries and hydrogen.
Critical tool for maximizing the viability of a PV installation in a specific electricity and hydrogen market.
08
METALIGNITE
Analysis of lignite power station modifications to use alternative fuels, like synthetic methane, e-methanol, biomethane and their mixtures or to produce chemicals with P2X technology.
Techno-economic, environmental and social impact analysis (S-LCA) of the post-lignite era.
